User agent lookup
Find your own user agent, or decode any other. Open this page and the report below already
describes the browser you are using; paste any HTTP User-Agent string to read it
instead. We parse it into software, version, layout engine, operating system, device and CPU,
then classify it (browser, mobile app, crawler, AI bot, security scanner, HTTP library…)
so you know exactly what is talking to your services.

What a user agent is
A user agent is the line of text a browser or app sends with every web request to say what it is: the software and version, the operating system and often the device. Websites use it to serve the right version of a page, and server logs record it next to every visit, which is why it is the first thing to read when you want to know who or what is calling your services.
How to find your user agent
You do not need to do anything: the report above is for the browser you are reading this
in. To copy the raw string, open your browser's developer tools (F12), go to the Console and
type navigator.userAgent. For a program or script, the user agent is in the
User-Agent request header, which your web server or proxy log shows.
Telling people from bots
Search engines, AI crawlers, uptime monitors, security scanners and scripts all send user agents too. The lookup recognises well over a thousand of them by name and says which category each belongs to. Keep in mind that a user agent is a claim, not proof: any client can send any string, so a request that says it is a search engine should be confirmed by its IP address, for example with our IP address lookup.
Common questions
Why does my browser report an older Windows or macOS version?
Browsers freeze parts of the user agent on purpose: every Windows 11 machine still reports "Windows NT 10.0", and macOS is reported as 10.15.7. Where your browser sends client hints, the report uses them to show the real version.
Is the user agent lookup free?
Yes, with no account. It runs on our own user agent database, so the string you paste is not sent to anyone else.
Seeing traffic you don't want?
Our platform categorises every User-Agent on your decrypted traffic and can block unwanted clients, or the IPs behind them, automatically.
