CIRCIA will require covered critical infrastructure entities to report substantial cyber incidents to CISA within 72 hours and ransom payments within 24 hours. The proposed rule was published in April 2024; funding lapses delayed the final rule, and CISA held town halls in June 2026 to gather last input. No final rule had been published as of September 2026. Reporting only starts on the effective date of the final rule.
