STCW: mandatory training on violence and harassment at sea
Amendments to the STCW Code adopted at MSC 108 (23 May 2024) entered into force on 1 January 2026. All seafarers must receive training on preventing and responding to violence and harassment, including sexual harassment, bullying and sexual assault, as part of basic safety training under table A-VI/1-4. Training providers and companies have to update course content, and certificates issued after that date have to reflect it. The MLC, 2006 amendments due in 2027 cover the same subject from the labour side.
