Maritime International Law

A new SOLAS regulation II-1/3-13 on onboard lifting appliances and anchor handling winches entered into force on 1 January 2026. It covers design and construction (for appliances installed on or after that date) and operation, inspection, testing and maintenance, supported by IMO guidelines. Cranes, davits used for cargo and stores, and anchor handling winches now sit inside the SOLAS survey regime instead of company or flag practice alone.
