SOLAS II-2: ro-ro fire safety, PFOS ban and fuel flashpoint
Amendments to SOLAS chapter II-2 entered into force on 1 January 2026. Ships constructed on or after that date must have improved fire detection, alarm, patrol and video monitoring in vehicle, special category and ro-ro spaces. Fire-extinguishing media containing PFOS are banned; ships built before 2026 have to remove them by the first survey on or after 1 January 2026. Bunker suppliers must declare the flashpoint of oil fuel on the delivery note, and ships of 3,000 GT and above built from 2026 need an electronic inclinometer.
