After adjourning in October 2025, the IMO's second extraordinary session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee is due to resume on Friday 4 December 2026, straight after MEPC 85 (30 November to 3 December), subject to confirmation by that session. On the table is adoption of the Net-Zero Framework: a global fuel standard and a pricing mechanism for ships above 5,000 GT. If adopted, entry into force would follow the MARPOL tacit acceptance procedure.
